Hoodoo Gurus × Leilani
Ausmusic T-Shirt Day
$50
Some stories are too good not to share. The artwork on this tee first appeared on the cover of Hoodoo Gurus’ debut single Leilani — released back when they were still called Le Hoodoo Gurus. The track came out on Sydney’s trailblazing Phantom Records, a label that helped ignite the city’s indie scene, and the design itself came through Phantom T-Shirts, the cult outlet run by Dare Jennings (which later evolved into Mambo). The band didn’t do merch back then, which is why, as Dave Faulkner shared, this always felt like “the t-shirt that never was.” Decades on, the design finally gets its due — bold, tropical, almost Gauguin-esque in style — a fitting slice of music history made wearable.
