2020 will be remembered as the year the world stopped. Our working lives came to halt, and suddenly we were facing some dark times with an unknown future as Covid-19 spread across the globe affecting all our lives like never before.
In March we decided to keep singing, one gospel song every Sunday morning live on social media with a quick hello, short and sweet, as a way to stay in touch and give something back to our faithful followers. And so, Sunday Sing Song was born.
The seed for our gospel album was sown over the ten weeks we spent broadcasting from home, usually with one musical friend accompanying us via video.
Gospel music has been a huge influence on the way we sing. We love the rawness and minimal instrumentation of the early recordings of the great vocal powerhouses…Mahalia Jackson, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Ruth Brown, Nina Simone and Aretha Franklin.
We hoped that despite the challenges of working remotely and recording in isolation that the album would still come together, and so we ploughed on and ‘Sunday’ is the result.
This record is to thank you for tuning in from all over Australia and the world every Sunday and for brightening our lockdown lives.
